Where does the money from the annual dues payments go?
Dues money goes to the general fund of the USC Alumni Club of the Nation's Capital. This money is used to help defray the cost of events such as our annual SCend Off. It may also be used to cover administrative fees, subsidize event costs for dues-paying members, or to fund scholarships for USC students.
What do I get with my DC Trojans membership?
DC Trojans Members will be offered the first opportunity to sign up for limited-availability events (including some which may fill up before they are offered to the general alumni list). You will also be able to sign up for most activities at a DC Trojans Members discounted rate.
Will I still receive e-mail updates if I don't sign up as a DC Trojans Member?
Yes, we will still continue to send e-mail updates to the general alumni list. But you may not hear about some events that are limited to DC Trojans Members.
Will I still be able to attend club activities if I am not a DC Trojans Member?
Most club activities will remain open to all alumni. But you will not receive the discounted fee offered to DC Trojans Members and you may not receive notification of all events. Each year we have certain events that have space restrictions and are thus only offered to dues-paying DC Trojans Members.
I haven't paid dues to the club before. Why should I start now?
For many years the club did not collect local membership dues and this limited the scope of events the club was been able to offer and strained the club's financial situation to the point that we were not even able to hand out scholarships for several years. The board has decided to add a nominal annual dues payment that will help our club grow and continue to offer the kind of activities that will encourage more and more alumni participation in the DC area.
Didn't the USC Alumni Club of the Nation's Capital just make a ton of money at the DC Weekender? Why do you need any more money?
Thanks to the support of USC fans from around the world, we did raise a significant amount of money at the 2004 DC Weekender (in conjunction with the USC-Virginia Tech football game). As we promised in all the event literature, that money has been designated for scholarships to USC students from the DC area. The money we will be collecting from DC Trojan members will be used to sustain and improve the high quality alumni activities we offer.
How do I sign up to become a DC Trojans Member?
To purchase 2008-09 Memberships, visit the USCAA website!
How much does membership cost?
$20 per academic year (September through August) for individuals. We will waive that fee for alumni in their first year out of USC undergrad. We also offer a discounted rate for couples and families.
How will I know how the money is spent?
At the end of each membership year (August) the club treasurer will publish a balance sheet and a statement of financial activities. Also, all expenditures and income is reviewed at each club meeting, which is open to all alumni.
Will any of my membership dues go to any compensation costs or dues charged by the USC Alumni Association on campus?
No. The club has no employees or contractors. Board members are volunteers and do not receive stipends or salaries. 100% of your dues will be spent on alumni program activities for the USC Club of the Nation's Capital.
I am not an alumnus/a but want to become a DC Trojans Member? Can I?
Yes, we offer a DC Trojans Supporter Membership. This will entitle you to all the benefits of a DC Trojans member. We are intending this membership level for parents, siblings, or other friends of the University.
Fight on!
